Mariachi Sirena
Founded in 2017, Mariachi Sirenas made history as Chicago鈥檚 first all-women mariachi ensemble. With soaring vocals, vibrant harmonies and the exhilarating interplay of violins, trumpets, guitars and guitarr贸n, the award-winning group brings tremendous warmth and energy to the traditions of m煤sica regional mexicana. The Sirenas have appeared at the Taste of Chicago, Fiesta del Sol and Millennium Park鈥檚 Jay Pritzker Pavilion, while their 2025 anniversary concert at the National Museum of Mexican Art played to a sold-out audience.
Co-founders Ibet Herrera and Er茅ndira Izguerra created Mariachi Sirenas after searching unsuccessfully for an all-women mariachi group in Chicago. What began with a rehearsal on International Women鈥檚 Day has grown into both an accomplished musical ensemble and a powerful sisterhood鈥攐ne that honors mariachi鈥檚 roots while opening doors for a new generation of musicians. Their name, 鈥淪irenas,鈥 evokes both the beauty of a mermaid鈥檚 song and the unmistakable power of women making themselves heard.
