This interdisciplinary minor offers a generalist approach to understanding communication concepts, processes, and theories and how they apply to a variety of situations and contexts. The program emphasizes the role communication plays in shaping our reality in a variety of personal, social, cultural, and political settings.

A minor in communication studies is designed to enhance students鈥 lives and careers through a clearer understanding of the role communication plays in their professional and personal lives.

You鈥檒l learn about argument, persuasion, leadership, and the subtle art of communicating within organizations and across cultures. Prepare to convey your own ideas more effectively, and to listen to others more deeply and thoughtfully. The polished skills you鈥檒l develop in oral, written and visual communication will allow you to stand out from the crowd and enter the job market ready to shine.

This minor in communication examines the complex and diverse ways people interact with one another: whether that鈥檚 face to face, one-on-one, in large groups or from a performance stage or it鈥檚 the remote communication that happens online or via film, video or mass media. Each mode of communication may involve slightly different strategies, but all tend to have the same goal: to inform, inspire and enrich.
